Exterior Pieces

Trelliswork is now a rare trade and so all the more precious. Whether restoring a private arched walkway, on which climb fragrant roses or creating a bench in the shade of a naked wooden bow, our trellis in its variety of patterns brings a touch of magnificence to your garden. Here at Les Ateliers Aubert-Labansat we still use authentic techniques dating back to the XVIII century, as can be seen in the earliest encyclopaedias such as the “Encyclopaedia of Enlightenment”. Our craftsmen still split by hand the chestnut laths and then immerse them into boiling water before carefully bending them into shape. Harmony in the garden is restored; a magnificent example of which can be seen at the royal park of Versailles, one of our prestigious commissions.

Joinery

“Joinery” encompasses a variety of disciplines each demanding its own expertise. From heritage doors to historic windows, ancient floors to magnificent ceilings, every piece produced in our workshops is unique. Whether we are creating a solid oak staircase in the medieval style, renovating a traditional altar, identically restoring a monumental doorway from the XVIII century or recreating a bookcase from prints dating from the XVII century, our craftsmen have the art and knowledge to create pieces as fine as the originals. Our commissions have taken us from the heart of Paris (Hotel National des Invalids), through Chateaux and Abbeys in France, Latimer Park House in England to Tennessee in the United States of America.

Oak Frames

The Mont Saint Michel and the Abbey of La Lucerne are just two of our many carpentry commissions. We hand make magnificent oak frames to form the centre piece of your buildings. Not only will a beautiful oak frame give presence and aesthetic appeal to your project but will carry all its weight. Whether in cathedrals, abbeys or churches, castles or privately owned manors, our carpenters demonstrate their profession in all its nobility.

Woodcarving

Russia is just one of the countries where the demand for our expertise has taken us, to realise woodcarvings of superb quality. The traditional tools of the woodcarvers’ trade are the gouges, chisels, scissors and curved files as used by our ancestors. Our craftsmen use these same tools to precisely carve the wood to create and decorate unique pieces, which adorn furniture, mirrors, panelling or pilasters. Their blend of artistic and technical skill gives them the capacity to achieve whatever you desire. In their hands innate pieces of wood turn into seeming living forms, the wood becoming lightweight and pliable, it folds and bends like magic.

Wrought Ironwork

Our artistry and expertise extends further than creating wood pieces, we are equally competent in the art of wrought ironwork. Whether conceiving a new piece or restoring an historical one, we can realise for you handsome handmade items to complement our work such as; door and window grills, door knockers, stair handrails and balustrades, even latches and locks. Each piece is unique, carefully crafted to match the style and size of the piece that it adorns.
